Three dimensional observations of the D-region made with a radar steerable in all directions discovered reflections continuous for up to about 2 min below 80 km and 1 min above 80 km. Directional properties of the reflections suggest the existence of a horizontally stratified type of reflector together with a more isotropic type. Above 80 km the reflections exhibit a patchiness in their occurrence.
