A mechanism for the generation of the baryon asymmetry in the universe is developed in terms of the unified gauge theories of the strong, electromagnetic and weak interactions. It is shown that the CP-noninvariant decays of heavy, scalar, lepton-quark bosons can be the source of the baryon asymmetry in processes with the nonconservation of baryon number and the violation of thermodynamic equilibrium. The application of the mechanism in the SO(10) and the SU(5) models is found to result in values of the baryon asymmetry close to those observed.
