Methods used for analysing ground-level magnetic field measurements of the equatorial eleotrojet are reviewed and discussed hoping to focus attention on the better methods. The use of the same methods for data from Nigeria and Peru has made a quantitative comparison of the results possible. The results indicate that the electrojet is wider and more intense in Peru than in Nigeria. The electrojet which is most intense at equinox appears to be narrower when it is more intense. The present knowledge of the electrojet is discussed. The equivalent depth of the image of the equatorial electrojet is found to be 506 km. This is the only experimental determination of the depth.
