The Reissner-Nordström-Vaidya metric is used to study the classical instability of the inner (Cauchy) horizon in the Reissner-Nordström black hole interior. The back-reaction of the geometry to the instability turns the Cauchy horizon into an intermediate curvature singularity (or ``whimper'') restoring predictability to the interior.
