A determination of the helium content of the faint blue star found near the center of SN 1006 and tentatively associated with the supernova remnant is reported. Analysis of line widths at 90% of the continuum was performed for the H-beta, H-gamma, H-delta and 4471-A (He I) absorption lines of SN 1006, and results were fit to an extensive grid of NLTE model atmospheres and line profiles. A closest fit helium abundance of 0.015 relative to hydrogen is obtained, together with an upper limit effective temperature of 40,000 K, in agreement with that derived from photometry. The effective temperature, helium abundance and implied log surface gravity of 6.5 place the object in the class of subdwarf OB stars, which so far comprises five known objects.
