The RATAN-600 telescope, located near Zelenchukskaya in the Northern Caucasus, designed for short-wavelength operation, is described. The 576-meters-across ring consists of 895 panels providing a total collection area of about 13,000 sq m, with the tiltable flat reflector inside the ring being 400 m long in the east-west direction and 8.3 m high. The operating principles behind the RATAN-600 rest on two basic ideas: dissection of the reflecting surface, and azimuthal image synthesis. Operational parameters are presented, and observation plans are noted, including the June 30, 1978, observing schedule.
