Recent research on the distribution of biochemicals in soil is discussed in relation to the solution of problems in geochemistry. Consideration is given to the factors affecting the preservation of biochemicals in natural deposits. The results of a Chromatographic study of the amino acids in soils are given. A new concept is presented concerning the nature of the nitrogen in sedimentary and igneous rocks.
