Polarization analysis of ultralow frequency waves in the ion cyclotron wave range is presented. The waves were observed with the Ulysses magnetometer during the flyby of the Jovian magnetosphere in 1992. During the inbound pass of Ulysses in the dawnside of Jupiter and in low to intermediate latitudes, the wave signatures show either elliptically left- or right-handed polarization and in one occasion linear polarization. During the outbound pass when the spacecraft was south of the magnetic equator in the duskside and in intermediate latitudes, the polarization of the events is found to be mostly right handed in the frequency range of ion cyclotron waves. Even though the statistical sample of events is limited, the relevance of crossover frequencies in the Jovian multicomponent plasma is strongly indicated by the observations. Further investigation into a more complete set of data covering both day and midnight sectors of the Jovian magnetosphere along with meridian variation is considered to be necessary in order to resolve the propagation properties of ion cyclotron waves in the cold multi-ion plasma of Jupiter's magnetosphere.
