On the basis of an incomplete portion of an UV light curve, it has been recently suggested that the very slow nova V1016 Cyg is a binary system with a 9.5 year orbital period. Following the analysis of a two decade long IR photometry, the author proposes a different orbital period, namely 6.0 years. This determination originates from modelling the dust obscuration episodes experienced by the Mira variable in V1016 Cyg. The Mira has a pulsation period of 478 days and very probably fills its Roche lobe. A temperature of 800K is derived for the dust around the Mira.
