The effect of variable electric fields on the containment of a collisionless plasma is studied using the toroidal, l = 3 Saturn stellarator. It is found that plasma containment time may be increased by 30-40% in the superbanana diffusion mode by an appropriate choice of the frequency zone of excited, longitudinal high-frequency fields. In the intermediate frequency range of electron collisions, i.e., the plateau, the high-frequency fields do not exert a significant influence on plasma confinement. During the excitation of monochromatic electric fields in the plasma, no effect on superbanana diffusion is found.
