Link's theory of eclipse phenomena (1969) is used to develop a simple model for the density of the Jovian atmosphere. The model involves the numerical calculation of conditions under which a light ray, emitted from the Jovian solid surface, is subject to total reflection in the atmosphere. The present method may also have application to the Venusian atmosphere.
