The thermal properties of electrons produced by collisional ionization in meteors are discussed and the processes by which thermalization is achieved are examined. It is shown that the electron cooling time varies from about one thousandth of a sec at a height of 80 km to about one tenth of a sec at 115 km with faster cooling being operative in bright meteors where electron de-excitation by positive ion collisions is important.
