The government committee considering plans for Europe-wide standardization of academic qualifications has issued a report welcoming the idea, with reservations. While the proposals for PhD degrees seem acceptable, particular aspects of the UK degree programme seem not to be catered for in the Bologna Process.
Fellows who attended the NAM at the University of Central Lancashire had the pleasure of seeing some of the 2007 RAS medallists and award-winners celebrated in person, among them Reinhard Genzel, who gave the 2007 George Darwin Lecture to a large and engaged audience. Now is the time to look ahead and consider nominations for the 2008 awards, ahead of the 31 July 2007 submission deadline.
Patrick Moore, probably the best known RAS Fellow - and certainly the easiest to recognize - had a party in April to celebrate The Sky at Night reaching its half century.
