A fairly complete but limited set of gas-phase reactions involving nitrogen-bearing molecules is linked to a simple model of grain-surface reactions. Calculations are performed attempting to simulate the nitrogen chemistry in interstellar clouds of low and high density. While it appears probable that grain-surface reactions contribute to the chemistry in both regimes, conclusive evidence awaits observational and theoretical developments.
