SN 1987A is described in terms of simple physics. Observations of Sk-69 202 and SN 1987A are reviewed and a simplified explanation of the physical mechanisms involved in the evolution of SN 1987A is given. Consideration is given to stellar equilibrium and collapse, shock break-out, brightening of the supernova, energy released in the core collapse, the neutron star in SN 1987A, radioactivity in the supernova, and neutrino production and interactions.
