An integral-equation approach is employed to determine a Cauchy system for the scattering and transmission functions of a finite anisotropically scattering homogeneous plane-parallel atmosphere bounded below by reflectors. An initial-value equation for the source function is derived from an auxiliary transfer equation, and the desired Cauchy system is obtained. It is shown how the transmission and scattering functions under consideration can be computed numerically in the case of planetary illumination according to a given phase function.
