The activity cycle of the sun is reviewed with attention to the contributions of Galileo, Schwabe, Wolf, Maunder, Carrington, Hale, Babcock and Parker. The use of the H-K photometer in the observation of the chromospheric variability of 91 sun-like stars at the Mount Wilson Observatory is discussed. It is estimated that more than half of the main-sequence stars less massive than 1.5 solar masses may show cyclic behavior. The chromospheric variations for 12 sunlike stars are given.
