Sun: Quadrupole Moment

Scientific paper

The synthetical results of measuring the Sun's gravitational quadrupole moment J2 have been obtained by using two distinct methods in recent years (i.e. the visual solar oblateness method and the rotational splitting fine structure method). At present, J2 changes in order of 10-6. The corrections of the J2-term perturbation to planetary orbital motion have been given in the precision of 10-11. There are overall influences on the first post-Newtonian order of the PPN effects on planetary orbital motion under the J2-term perturbation. The parametric values of Brans-Dicke's theory and Barker's theory have been determined by combining the PPN effects.
