The fourth-order gravity theory with lagrangian R - 2Λ +
αR2 is shown to be conformally equivalent to Einstein
gravity with a massive scalar field. Some consequences for black holes
and cosmology are discussed. In particular, R + αR2
black holes are found to lack hair.
