The electric currents induced in and around a pulsating auroral form are determined by breaking down the magnetic variation observed at a single station into the contributions from various pulsating auroral forms by the least squares method. Multiple correlation analysis shows that the magnetic deflections at ground points below a pulsating auroral form can be estimated even when many pulsating patches appear at the same time. A model calculation shows that the horizontal magnetic deflections, observationally determined, are fully explained by the combination of ionospheric and field aligned electric currents theoretically expected to be induced in and near a local enhancement of conductivity of a pulsating auroral patch under the existence of a uniform, convection electric field.
