The access of solar energetic protons at different parts of the distant plasma sheet is studied by simultaneous observations of step discontinuities in the solar proton intensities both in the interplanetary space and inside the plasma sheet regime. It is determined that the time delay for access of the solar energetic protons to the position of the spacecraft inside the plasma sheet increases as function of its distance from the neutral sheet.
