The use of a space-borne antenna for VLBI will place new requirements on the correlator and data-processing systems. The large orbit and rapid motion of the satellite lead to delays, delay rates, fringe rates, fringe accelerations, and Doppler bandshifts substantially greater than those encountered with ground-based antennas alone. The scheduled updating of the Mark III correlator, or small modifications to the planned Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) correlator, will enable the direct processing of Quasat data.
