The possible correlation of sunspot numbers at solar maxima with the numbers of sunspots in 10-deg latitude belts from the solar equator during sunspot minima is investigated. Examination of sunspot numbers during the last eight activity maxima and minima reveals the annual average Wolf relative number of sunspots at a given maximum to show high correlation with the yearly totals of the number of sunspot groups at latitudes between 20 and 40 deg during the preceding minimum, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere. It is pointed out that the results obtained may have applications in the prediction of solar activity.
