SEVERAL groups1,2 using balloon-borne instruments in the northern auroral region have observed pulsating electron precipitation events occurring near local noon which were associated with geomagnetic pulsations of type Pc3 (continuous pulsations with periods in the range 10-45 s). Pulsation events which are believed to be of the same basic type have been recorded with ground-based instruments, namely a riometer and geomagnetic micropulsations (dH/dt) sensor, at Macquarie Island in the southern auroral region.
