The plans, concepts, and construction of the MMT are discussed, including some photographs depicting its configurations. The basic design revolves around six light-weight mirrors with an f/2.7 main mirror and a 26 cm secondary mirror giving a total focal length of f/32. Attention is given to the assembly of the telescope which consists of an azimuth-elevation system similar to those used in radio telescopes.
