A mechanism for the collective acceleration of protons and nuclei in solar flares is proposed, according to which nuclei are captured by electron bunches moving along open force lines of the decaying magnetic field of sunspots. The mechanism accounts in a natural way for the ratios of the electrons and nucleus energies observed during flares. Acceleration of electrons in current sheets up to energies of about one million eV is considered as a mechanism of pulsed electron injection. The collective acceleration mechanism can be in effect at a relatively low density of the accelerated electrons.
