The agreement between theory and observations for the case of the sun is discussed. The positions of six solar models in the theoretical H-R diagram are plotted, and an evolutionary track is examined which was computed for a model with 1 solar mass, Y = 0.23, Z = 0.02, and alpha = 2, where alpha is apparently identified as the ratio of mixing length to pressure scale height. It is concluded that the theory of stellar evolution can provide quantitatively correct results within a few percent, at least for the main sequence, that a helium abundance of 0.22 to 0.24 seems to be indicated for the sun in particular, and that the calibration of the mixing-length theory of superadiabatic convection requires a value of 1.5 to about 2 for alpha.
