The Ørsted satellite (launched on February 23, 1999) orbit has now drifted through all magnetic local times, giving coverage over both the northern and southern polar caps for all seasons (summer, equinox, winter) and various interplanetary conditions. In this study, we focus on storm-time conditions, specifically investigating the distributions of high-latitude field-aligned currents during the strong magnetic storms that commenced on September 22, 1999, February 11, April 6, and November 28, 2000, and March 19, March 31, and April 11, 2001. We seek to verify if Region 1 field-aligned currents saturate because of very strong solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere (SWMI) coupling for experimental confirmation of Hill's theoretical SWMI model. The model takes into account a feedback from the ionosphere to the magnetosphere through varying R1 currents. We find that strong field-aligned currents fill the entire polar cap; we will attempt to obtain a statistical distribution of these currents. The voltage-current relation responsible for generation of these field-aligned and ionospheric current systems will be discussed.
