2784 Solar Wind/Magnetosphere Interactions
Scientific paper
The 4-spacecraft Cluster mission specializes in multipoint plasma measurements of the Earth's magnetospheric boundaries. It has permitted the accurate determination of three-dimensional and time-varying phenomena. We will present an initial survey of bow shock crossings identified using Cluster FGM and PEACE data. In particular we will concentrate on a few crossings for which there are timing differences between the spacecraft crossing the shock due for instance to a highly variable pressure in the solar wind. We will show 3D animations of the bow shock surface in relation to the 4 spacecraft using these crossings.
