We propose a 40 ksec Chandra HETG TOO observation of the microquasar GRO J1655-40 during outburst. The object shows both radio-loud and radio-quiet X-ray outbursts, with relativistic jets accompanying the radio outbursts. Clear evidence for complex absorption in the iron K band has been observed with ASCA. The HETG can be used to great advantage here, allowing us to extract detailed line diagnostics and, through precise measurements of redshifts, determine the location and kinematic properties of the absorber. GRO J1655-40 represents a unique opportunity to explore (``up close'') transient outburst accretion physics near a black hole.
