Sunspots: Solar-Terrestrial Relations
Scientific paper
The connection between global geomagnetic disturbances and variations of the primary indices of spot formation has been analyzed. A close correlation has been shown to exist between the strength of solar magnetic phenomena and the unrest of the geomagnetic field. The delay of the aa indices relative to changes in the lifetime of groups of spots T0 is evidently related to drift towards the pole of the solar magnetic field, manifested in migration towards the pole of high-latitude proturberances, polar faculae, and phenomena of coronal activity. It has been concluded that the high-latitude magnetic field of the Sun influences the lifetime of spot groups in high-latitude regions of the spot formation zone.
