Radio science experiment requirements levied by the Pioneer Venus Project have resulted in the development of a multimission radio science subsystem at the 64-m subnet. Major functional capabilities of the DSS radio science subsystem (DRS) were real time bandwith reduction and wideband recording of radio science data. A functional description of the key characteristics, requirements, and operation of the DRS is provided.
