The aurora is one obvious example of coupling between atmospheric regions, and coupling of the ionosphere and magnetosphere. The CEDAR program has studied this coupling mostly with ground based observations, while the ISTP program has approached the study of M-I coupling with observations from satellites. Both programs also include significant modeling efforts. In this talk I will briefly review some of the studies where both programs met and observations from the ground and from space were integrated.
