Dynamics of stars in the nuclei of galaxies is discussed with a focus on the region of gravitational dominance of a supermassive black hole. Recent works in this direction are summarized and it is emphasized that various dissipative effects should be taken into account in order to obtain a sufficiently accurate picture in which the effects of the central black hole can be revealed on sub-parsec scales.
