We study a homogeneous, isotropic model of the universe in new general relativity, namely in a gravitational theory based on the Weitzenböck space-time with absolute parallelism. Our conclusions are as follows: (1) If the universe is open, new general relativity gives nearly the same homogeneous, isotropic model of the universe as the Friedmann model in general relativity. (2) If the universe is closed, the parameters c_{1} and c_{2} appearing in the gravitational action must satisfy the condition c_{1}=c_{2}=0 in order to be consistent with homogeneity and isotropy of the universe. When this condition is satisfied, the Friedmann model is obtained also in new general relativity.
