Attention is given to the IKI laboratory model of the magnetosphere, generated by the interaction of a super-Alfven collisionless hydrogen plasma flow with a magnetic dipole. Model results show that in the magnetospheric boundary layer the plasma motion in the magnetic field can be determined by the polarization electric fields. These conditions are created by the direct penetration of plasma from the boundary layer into the mantle, the plasma intersecting magnetic field lines in the polar cusp region. In the present model the mantle-plasma flow is a natural continuation of the low-latitude boundary layer.
