The O-C diagram shows that the orbital period of U Gem varies on a time-scale of about 10 years with a range of dP/dt of about 3 x 10 exp -10. Variations in the outburst frequency and in the mean visual flux seem to indicate that the mass-transfer rate fluctuates by about 20-30 percent also on a time-scale of about 10 years. The two variations are only very weakly correlated.
