The numerical simulations of the interaction of the solar wind with the ionosphere of comet P/Grigg-Skjellerup are compared with the experimental data obtained in July 1992 by the `Giotto' spacecraft. The comparison is based on the geometric parameters of the region of interaction and on the distributions of plasma velocity and magnetic-field strength along the spacecraft's trajectory. There is a satisfactory agreement between the theoretical and experimental data, except for the region near the cometary nucleus, where MHD effects may play a crucial role.
