A survey of properties of grand unification schemes based on N=1 Supergravity is given. The topics discussed include the following: the construction of Supergravity GUT models, spontaneous symmetry breaking of Supergravity and SU(2)×U(1) symmetry, general conditions at the tree level for the existance of a low mass sector ``protected'' from the GUT and Planck masses, construction of the low mass effective potential, and conditions for maintaining the gauge hierarchy up to the one loop level. Properties of a general class of models possessing a light photino and a light gluino are discussed, and some features of the supersymmetric decays of the W and Z mesons are described.
