Models of the lunar density distribution are presented that are consistent with all available data on the physical properties of the Moon. It is found that the density profile is very sensitive to changes in moment of inertia and surface density, and largely insensitive to changes in the central density. From the gravity field and surface composition of the Moon, a moment between 0.39 and 0.40 and a surface density near 3.1 g/cm3 is inferred. The central density (with no high density core) is about 3.7 g/cm3 if the Moon is chemically homogeneous, 3.5 g/cm3 if differentiation is assumed.
