This article describes important theoretical and experimental investigations on low-frequency electromagnetic modeling in applied geophysics. The basic theory of models and the salient features of experimental set-ups are discussed. The principle of simulation of anisotropic conductors for certain favourable source configurations is also enunciated. Important experimental findings are critically surveyed and the screening influences of conducting overburdens are reinterpreted in the light of the principle of negative screening.
