I will present the results of general relativistic hydrodynamic simulations of post-neutron star merger disks as potential candidates to be progenitors of short-lasting gamma-ray bursts. I will outline the observational signatures that off-axis observation of such events may yield. Particularly, I will focus on the comparison between theoretical and actual redshift distributions of observational properties of short gamma-ray bursts.
