Scientific paper

Recent results of probe exploration of Mars have indicated the existence of large reserves of water ice on the planet. It is suggested that the water content of the Mars atmosphere is determined not only by the characteristics of the polar caps but also by the water content of certain regions outside the polar caps, particularly the Hellas region. These results are examined in the light of Soviet publications on the subject over the past 20 years; some predictions made in the literature seem to have been confirmed.
