We approach the dynamics in proto-stellar systems via the two-body problem associated to an anisotropic Schwarzschild-type potential. On the basis of the natural symmetries of the characteristic vector field, and using variational methods (particularly the classical lower-semicontinuity method), we prove the existence of infinitely many families of symmetric periodic orbits.
