Observations of solar S bursts using a radio telescope in the range 30-82 MHz were used to characterize the events. Bursts were observed in June-July, 1979, with one storm yielding over 1000 S events at 40 MHz. All the bursts displayed a negative frequency drift with a range less than 5 MHz. No systematic variation of duration with frequency was observed. The instantaneous bandwidth was found to be limited to 123 MHz to within 56 kHz while duration at a single frequency was only 49 plus or minus 34 msec. A tendency was also noted for some of the S bursts to appear as a series of fringes separated by 100 kHz.
