Scientific paper

A study was made of the trapped normal modes of a magnetized plasma (z-mode) excited in the ionosphere as a result of the scattering of a common radio wave by quasi-stationary small-scale inhomogeneities extended along the magnetic field. The propagation of the z-mode from the generation point to the plasma resonance region and its absorption and scattering by ionospheric inhomogeneities are analyzed. The energy flux of the z-mode in the plasma resonance region is determined.
