The UV spectrum of NGC 4593 was observed twice at an interval of 9 days. Significant variations are found both in the line and the continuum which yield an upper limit to the size of the broad line region 2 times 10 to the 16th power cm. Several correlations are found, in particular between the intensity and the spectral index of the power law continuum at 2500 A. The short wavelength flux excess present in earlier data vanished in 1981. Emission line intensities are in general correlated with that of the continuum, with the high excitation lines showing the strongest variations.
