The H I 21-cm absorption in the direction of Sgr A was measured using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, at angular resolution 23 x 143 arcsec, velocity range -130 to +130 km/s, and velocity resolution 4.1 km/s. A continuous map of Sgr A at 21 cm and velocity-right ascension plots of the H I optical depth distributions over Sgr A at four declinations are displayed. The major new aspects studied are individual narrow velocity features and the search for a high velocity dispersion component of the interstellar medium. The latter is less than one-third that proposed by Radhakrishnan and Sarma (1980) and Radhakrishnan and Srinivasan (1980). The properties of the H I absorption from the 4 kpc arm, and from the -31, +23, +50, and +70 km/s features are discussed.
