Available high-temperature and high-pressure shock wave data on fluids are combined with low-temperature and low-pressure data to generate empirical equations of state in the virial format in reduced pressure and temperature for many species. A similar equation of state is derived for H2O. The fugacities of the pure species in the C-H-O system can be calculated using the present equation to a temperature of 3000 K and to a pressure of 1 megabar. It is noted that dissociation of the pure species may invalidate the data over certain pressure-temperature ranges.
