In a recent paper, Hintz & Joner (1997) questioned the double--mode nature of the high--amplitude Delta Sct star V798 Cyg, suggested by Poretti & Antonello (1988). To do that they used their own new CCD measurements and, on the basis of the goodness of the fit, they concluded that a single frequency (f1= 5.1261 c/d) and three harmonics (2f1, 3f1, 4f1) yielded a satisfactory explanation of the observed light curve without recurring to a double--mode pulsation. However, they did not rediscuss the previous available data to verify their conclusion. This simple methodological caution would have prevented them from publishing a spurious result.
